What is Microneedling?

Microneedling is a cosmetic procedure that encourages collagen production using tiny, sterilised needles. It helps smooth, firm, and tone skin and improve the appearance of scars, acne, fine lines, wrinkles and more.

Microneedling is minimally invasive, requiring little to no downtime. It’s considered safe for most people. You can experience redness and irritation for up to 48 hours after the procedure.

Who can have it?

It’s considered safe for most people. But it is advised against those who suffer badly with active acne, or those with moderate to severe psoriasis or eczema.

What do I do after the treatment?

You will notice redness and in some cases small pin-pricks but this is normal and a good sign. It’s best to let your skin heal before applying makeup, retinols and AHA’s. Your skin will also be more sensitive to the sun so SPF is essential.

Your skin will work quickly to recover and will start to feel and see results just a couple days after.

Microneedling vs. home rollers

Unlike professional microneedling, most home derma rollers don’t puncture the skin to layers deep enough to draw blood. While this might seem a less painful option, you may not achieve the same results. The punctures made during professional microneedling are designed to encourage skin rejuvenation. If you want more effective and long-term results, microneedling is better than a store-bought roller.

How many sessions do I need?

Treatment plans vary from person to person, but research has shown mild improvement in post-acne scarring after just two microneedling sessions. After six sessions, people saw moderate improvement in their skin texture and good enhancement of scar appearance.
